| (LS) Last night amid some discussion, the Juniata Co. Commissioners voted to raise salaries of the county’s elected officials by 3% & it will start during the current term of office. Commissioner Theresa O’Neal was out-voted on the measure that will increase the pay for county commissioners & 9 other elected positions. Those increases would kick in next year & extend through 2017. O'Neal said she could not go along with the vote because she felt the commissioners were public servants & that they should not feel entitled. Commissioner Jeffrey Zimmerman made the motion to increase salaries with Zimmerman & Commissioner Dale Shelley approving. O'Neal & Zimmerman, however refused to take the raise for next year. Zimmerman accepted it, saying he did so because all non-elected officials received at least a 3% increase or more. |
