| (LS) Last night in Mifflintown there was more public comment than the Juniata County School Board could juggle. There were several tense moments at the Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School where over 100 local residents called for more explanation over options to cope with the district’s aging facilities. Of all the options presented, the architects said the cheapest one was for constructing a consolidated central high school for 6 to 12th grades & renovating East Juniata High School for K to 5th grades–all as a cost of over $93 million.. Also at the voting meeting, tempers were tested over public comments with resident Ernest Sweitzer submitting the only request for comment but was denied permission to speak until after the voting meeting. This kept the crowd stirred up throughout the presentation. |
