| (CDT) Yesterday, State College School board members approved selling the Boalsburg Elementary building to St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy for $750,000. The sale must now be approved by a Centre Co. judge, but community members were already praising the agreement. The county has assessed the 6-acre property as being worth $1.18 million. But district business manager Jeffrey Ammerman said the $750,000 price fit within the guidelines presented by the district’s appraiser. The $750,000 sticker price is more than other Centre Co. districts have received in recent years as they vacated elementary schools. Penns Valley Area School District closed the Gregg Twp.-Spring Mills Elementary School in 2006, as part of a long-range plan to reduce costs. The next year, the district started leasing the building for $1 a year to a group that turned the building into a community center. Later, the district handed the building entirely over to the community group. |
