06 - 29 - 2010 Midd-West School District to hike real estate taxes
(DI) As the school board gave final approval yesterday for a 2010-11 budget, which will raise the average homeowner's real estate taxes by $176, Midd-West School District officials complained openly about work continuing to fall behind schedule on a $32 million building project, which is playing a part in that tax increase. The general fund operating budget for the next school year is nearly $31 million, with nearly $1 million of that accounted for in the district's debt service expenditure, which includes construction costs for the high school building project. They join other school districts in the Juniata Valley & in Centre Co. in raising taxes due to a budget crunch.
